J starting Nursery

So January marks the month that J will start nursery 1 & 1/2 days a week. he'll be doing Tuesday afternoons and all day Thursday, this is in preparation of me going back to work at the end of February.

I know what you might be thinking why am I putting him in nursery before I start work? Well the theory behind it was

  1. I need some time to my self as I'm finding it hard spending 7 days a week looking after him
  2. I had heard that some children can pick up bugs when they 1st start so I want to make sure if this happened I could be off with him
  3. I didn't want him to start nursery and me to start work at the same time and actually I am glad of this now.
I do want to say that every nursery is different so this is my experience of the Nursery J will be attending. Apologies due to certain reasons I can't tell you the name of the nursery.

I had pretty much had J's name down from when I was 12 weeks pregnant. I'm lucky that the nursery doesn't have a massive waiting list.

The nursery like to have a home visit so we had this on the 3rd January. J's key worker come for the visit with a colleague and spent an hour with me and J going through the forms for nursery. I had been asked to complete a questionnaire about J and the family. It included things like out ethinic background, J's likes and dislikes, routines, allergies etc

After this J then had an hour visit at the nursery where I stayed with him. His 2nd visit was an hour one again but this time I had to leave him with his key worker. He seemed to really enjoy it me not so much. As you already have seen J is a little cutie so nearly everyone is smitten with him straight away and his loves the attention. But as for me I wasn't as happy, I took my self off around town for a spot of shopping but I felt very tearful and like a part of me was missing.

Visit 3 was a 2 & 1/2 hour visit. I dropped J off at 10:30 and left instructions for him to be given his bottle ASAP. I made my departure after kissing J goodbye and went off to my physio appointmet. I was glad to have had this to keep my mind off things.

On my return I was told that they'd be in the garden done some hand printing pictures, j had eaten turkey cassoral followed by pear purée so a pretty full on couple of hours. We came straight home and j had a massive 1 and 1/2 hours sleep! Longest he's had in ages and was down in bed by 6pm shattered.

4th visit was a 5 hour one. All went well I even felt happier about leaving him. On collection Hubby joined me so I could show him the nursery and also introduce him to the staff. On our arrival J was sat being fed, his key worker turned him around to he could see us but he took one look at us and burst into tears!

He was meant to start nursery on the 14th January but unfortunately due to an upset tummy he wasn't able to. The nursery policy is that they must be 48hrs clear of a runny tummy.

J's 1st afternoon was 21st. The night before I got all his bits ready in his special nursery bag.

He had to take with him a blanket, as you may know for previous post he room at home at pale blue stars so all his home blankets match with this so I wanted him to have something really fun for nursery so I got him this one from H&M

Along with his blanket I also had to send him in with spare clothes with his name written in them.

His 1st afternoon went fine and he looked happy when I collected him.

His 1st fall day will be Thursday. I have a few things planned. I've only got 4 weeks now until I start work eek!

  1. Its totally understandable that you would feel lost without him but that's great news that he is having a good time there and bonus for you that you collect him happy and tired. I love his little bag. Its amazing how fast the time has gone but good luck going back and excellent idea to get him into the nursery beforehand rather than do it all in one go.
